Hi friends! Welcome to Campus Meets Community.

Today we are going to talk about food.

YAY. It's about time, right?

A fun, relatively new restaurant that I tried with my friend Kristen Henningson is Gillersons Grubbery in downtown Aurora, IL. The restaurant has become a hot spot in the one year since it opened.

One major mission that Gillersons mentions on their website, is that they purchase their fresh ingredients from local farmers and businesses in the surrounding community.

As a blog that is all about the importance between a business (or a campus) and a community, I was very excited to give this place a try.

This restaurant has a small, one-page menu, but the options are really diverse. While a staple of the restaurant is a tasty burger, the restaurant offers alternative sandwich and appetizer choices with unique flair.

No matter your mood, Gillersons has it covered. The flavorful items on the menu range from Asian to Southwestern. You could order some a dish with soba noodles and wasabi, while your date orders a burger covered in pico de gallo. Finding a restaurant everyone can enjoy is tough, so the diversity in flavors at Gillersons was a major plus.

As a hamburger connoisseur, I went for a more traditional order. I tried the Mamma Dukes burger, complete with lettuce, tomato, pickles, cheddar cheese, and Cajun mayo, served on a pretzel bun. The side options available were fries, chips, a side salad or tater tots. Obviously, I went with the tater tot's, because I am an adult. (obviously)

Kristen went with the vegetarian sandwich called the Tacoma Ave. It is a fresh sandwich filled with tomato, peppers, mushrooms, and onions, but SLATHERED in Havarti cheese. As tasty as my burger was, this vegetarian option made me rethink my carnivorous choice.

Both of our delicious meals cost ten dollars! There were more expensive options on the menu, but we wanted to keep out meal as budget friendly as possible.

I think it was money well spent. Not only did we get to try something new, we got to support a local restaurant who is supportive of the Aurora community. A double win.

Look at the pictures below to see just how tasty our food looked!
